Hudson offensive lineman Brian Winters has watched Kent State athletics for most of his life.

Today he became part of it when he signed a national letter of intent to attend KSU in front of his family, friends and coaches.

"I have always been a fan of KSU because I live so close," said Winters, a 6-6, 320-pound tackle who wore a KSU baseball cap while signing his letter. "I grew up here and I have always followed the Flashes, so this is kind of neat for me."

NORTH ROYALTON - Dan France's mother, Julie, and his brother, Matthew, watched with pride today at North Royalton, where Dan re-enacted his morning signing to attend Michigan State on a football scholarship.

Dan's father, John, shared the moment, following college football's national signing day via the Internet, while he was out of town on business.

Dan, a 6-6, 275-pounder who could play defensive or offensive tackle at Michigan State, wore a big smile as friends took photos and milled around.

MENTOR - Four Mentor athletes signed letters of intent with colleges this morning at the district's Board of Education office.

In football, safety Tim Moore signed with Bowling Green, defensive end Ben Pike signed with Toledo and defensive end/offensive tackle Kevin Poropat signed with Mercyhurst. Also, cross country runner Stephen Schulz signed with Purdue.
