Elyria tops Strongsville in marathon girls volleyball match: High school roundup

Junior hitter Kristen Boros' ace at match point capped Elyria's dramatic 3-2 victory over Strongsville in a Northeast Ohio Conference volleyball match Tuesday night.

Elyria won the first two games, 25-20, 25-16, and Strongsville battled back with strong net play to win the next two, 25-22, 25-22. Game five was back-and-forth until Boros' ace ended it at 19-17.

Boros led the Pioneers with 19 kills and 19 digs. Brigette Jones had 13, kills, 13 digs, seven solo blocks and eight block assists; Jazmyn Corlew added 11 kills and Shelby Regiec had 44 assists for Elryia (6-2, 3-0).

Elease Moore's 35 digs led Strongsville.

Brecksville 3, Amherst 2: Outside hitters Lindsey Remington and Olivia Chrzanowski combined for 34 kills and 65 digs in a 34-32, 20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-4 victory. Setter Jacque Reszler had 45 assists for Brecksville (6-2 overall). Amherst is 10-2, and both teams are 4-1 in the Southwestern Conference.

Kent Roosevelt 3, Field 0: Junior middle blocker Emily Carver had 10 blocks, eight kills and 10 service points as the Rough Riders won a meeting of teams unbeaten in the Portage Trail Conference, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23. Junior middle blocker Hannah Mueller had nine kills and nine blocks for Field.

Padua 3, Hoban 1: Ohio State recruit Kaitlyn Leary had 23 kills and became the first Padua volleyball player to reach 1,000 career kills as the Bruins won a match between North Coast League powers, 30-32, 25-16, 25-17, 25-12. Padua is 4-0 in the NCL and Hoban slipped to 5-1.

Mayfield 3, Hudson 1: Megan Richman's 14 kills led the Wildcats to a 25-9, 19-25, 25-10, 25-20 victory. Mayfield (7-1, 2-0 Northeast Ohio Conference) had 36 assists and setter Mikayla Zernic, and Morgan McGrath contributed 10 kills.

Midview 3, Avon 1: The Middies won, 25-27, 25-20, 25-6, 25-15, and were led by Arrianna Cumberledge (15 kills) and Danielle Herwing (eight aces).
