The Chagrin Falls cross country teams had a great weekend as both the boys and the girls qualified for the regional meet during the past weekend's district meet at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland.Individually, Greg Jantzen of University School won the boys meet as he earned a time of 17 minutes, 14.32 seconds, which was less than half a minute faster than Ross Crocker of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, who was second.
The Chagrin Falls boys were second with 89 points as CVCA won the meet with just 25. US will also run as a team in the regional meet on Saturday at Boardman High School as the Preppers came in fourth with 112. The top four teams and the top 16 individual runners advance to the regional meet.
Other area teams that competed were Benedictine, which was sixth with 129, Beachwood in seventh with 163, Orange in eighth with 226 and West Geauga in ninth with 230.
For the girls, the Tigers came in third with 67, just two points behind Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, which was second. CVCA won the meet with 35 while Laurel School also will run in the regional meet as the Gators came in fifth with 153. The top five teams and 20 individuals qualify for the regional meet.
Hathaway Brown just missed out on advancing as the Blazers were sixth with 167 followed by West G in seventh with 187 and Orange in ninth with 249.
The Tiger boys who ran well were Ryan Pierce (seventh), Nate Stapulionis (11th), and Jason Flanders (22nd).
Right behind Jantzen for US was Will Moore in 19th and Sam Turben in 27th.
Other individual runners that advanced were Michael Dober of Benedictine (fifth) and Michael Martin of Orange (ninth).
Sam Newman of Beachwood was the top runner not to advance as he came in 17th.
Kyle Wilcox and Jonathan Moritz of West G came in 44th and 45th, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Chagrin Falls girls had five runners in the top 22 as KirstenStevenson led the way, coming in sixth. Following Stevenson were teammates Jessica Walker (11th), Rachel Regano (12th), Kristen Ostergard (17th) and Margaret Cantlay (22nd).
Carolyn Batke paced Laurel as she came in 23rd with Anna Orlando in 25th.
Caitlin Clapacs of HB qualified as an individual.
The top finisher for West G was Stephanie Brinning in 31st with Allie Thorton pacing Orange in 43rd.
