The Beachwood Invitational served as a showcase for many area track and field stars.
On the girls' side, Normandy won the event with 96.50 points, North Olmsted was runner-up with 84.50, followed by Beaumont third with 76.
Laurel School was fourth, followed by Shaler (Pa.) Area, Shaw, Eastlake North, John Hay, Perry, Cornerstone Christian, Central Catholic, St. Peter Chanel, Beachwood, Regina, Lake Ridge Academy, Glenville, Martin Luther King, Villa Angela-St. Joseph, Lincoln-West, Lutheran East and East High.
Normandy was strong in field events. The Invaders were led by sophomore Ayisha Seidu, who won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. Fellow soph Betsy Morchak won the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 7 inches, to beat out Laurel junior Rachel Eden's 33 feet.
Julie Perl won the long jump at 16 feet.
In the 100 dash, both Brittany Jackson of Laurel and Pochatek broke the meet record of 12.75. Jackson, a junior, ran 12.50; Pochatek, a senior, clocked 12.74.
It took a record performance of 25.61 by John Hay freshman Chanit Westbrooks to beat out Jackson for the 200 title.
Beaumont went 1-2 in the 3,200 run. Junior Jane Lodwick won the distance event in 12:39.60 over sophomore Peggy Whitmore's 12:57.54.
The 100 intermediate hurdles was a battle of seniors as Beaumont's Lisa Comella edged Jaclyn Kellon, 16.67 to 16.84. Blue Streaks freshman Rachel Slingluff won the 1,600.
The 800 was a tight race, won by Shaler's Meagan Carter over Beaumont sophomore Allie Mooney.
Regina's best event was the triple jump. Senior Jackie Bauman was fifth and freshman Jasmine Braxton was eighth.
The Royals' best single finish was by sophomore Maureen Bauman, who took was fourth in the 3,200 and seventh in the 1,600. Freshman Shannel Warren was seventh in the 200.
The Benedictine boys came in first with 82 points, with Eastlake North second 78 and North Olmsted third at 77.
Villa Angela-St. Joseph was fourth, followed by Normandy, Shaw, Avon, Cornerstone Christian, Perry, Lutheran East, Beachwood, St. Peter Chanel, Shaler Area, Central Catholic, Lincoln-West, Lake Ridge Academy and East High.
Adam Patterson of Benedictine led the way with 20 team points by winning two field events. Patterson broke Painesville Harvey's Ian Jones's record shot put throw of 48-5.5 with a toss of 53-11.
The Bengals' junior then won the discus throw at 144-7, topping VASJ's Antonio Tate's 134-6.
In the 400 relay, Bengal seniors Justin Kollie, Nick St. John, Anthony Urbania and Romel Dismuke won the race in 44.83.
Ross Schrieber of Normandy won the triple jump with a new meet mark of 41-4.75. Ryan Thomas of the Invaders won the 200 meters.
In the 1,600 relay, Normandy's Dave Jacobs, Ross Schrieber, Steve Piotrowski and Thomas won over Beachwood's Dan Weiss, Jason Edwards, Airion Watkins-Clark and John Edwards.
In other field events, sophomore Adrian Anderson of Lutheran East won the high jump at 6 feet, with junior Philip Tucker of VASJ second at 5-10.
In the long jump, Josh Price, a junior from North Olmsted, set a meet mark of 22-4. In the 110 high hurdles, Tom Gay of North edged Price, 15.27 to 15.36.
