Normandy girls basketball team hoping to repeat as champs

, November 18, 2012 9:45 p.m.

With five returning seniors, Normandy's girls basetball team seemingly has all the tools to defend its Northeast Ohio Conference Lake Division title.

The Lady Invaders finished last season 12-10 overall and a perfect 10-0 in the division in Erin Calabrese's first season as Normandy's head coach.

Normandy lost two seniors to graduation but bring back a total of seven juniors and seniors - junior guard Lauren Schuck, junior guard/post Arlene Kostyak, senior guards Rachael Catrina, Taylor Lasik, Katlyn Snyder and Valentina Pettito and senior post player Kaitlyn Karaffa.

Snyder scored 12.3 points per game and led the team in steals last season. Schuck returns after scoring five points a game leading the team in assists and Karaffa tallied five rebounds per contest.

Calabrese feels confident in her team's perimeter guard play and man defense and hopes for improvement in the area of decision-making against pressure.

Normandy opens the season Nov. 28 at Nordonia.
