Elyria Catholic tops Oberlin in girls soccer: High school roundup

Molly O'Malley supplied all the offense Elyria Catholic needed to defeat visiting Oberlin, 3-1, on Monday in an independent girls soccer match.

O'Malley's three first-half goals let the Panthers (3-3-1) open up a 3-0 lead against the Phoenix (5-2-1). Abby Weiss got the lone goal for the visitors after the break.

 

Kirtland 0, Madison 0: The Hornets (4-1-1) and host Blue Streaks (4-1-2) battled through the scoreless affair to remain at one loss each on the season.

Mayfield 9, Lakeside 1: Brittany Hirsch had three first-half goals as the Wildcats (4-4) won going away.

Midview 1, Keystone 0: Freshman Kayla Hirschfelder's second-half goal was the difference as the Middies (1-4-1) got their first win.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Southview 2, Lutheran West 0: Second-half goals by Erik Escamilla and Bobby Soler provided the winning margin for the Saints.

Oberlin 4, Firelands 0: The host Phoenix improved to 5-0-1 as goalkeeper Josh Kocsis got the shutout. Daniel Buhlosa, Zach Walsh, NiiArmah Hammond and Sam Annable scored the goals.

Norwalk 4, Brookside 1: Ramon Orneles had two goals as Norwalk forced Brookside goalkeeper Mitch Kepic to make 36 saves.

GIRLS GOLF

Hudson 163, Strongsville 181, North Royalton 209: Senior Natalie Goodson shot a 2-over 38 at Hinckley Hills to help the Explorers win the tri-match. With the victory, the Explorers move into a first-place with Strongsville in the Northeast Ohio Conference at 8-1, 6-1.

Avon 179, Bay 202, Vermilion 229: The Eagles improved to 16-0 as they put four players in the 40s at Willow Creek in Vermilion. Katelyn Greear took medalist honors with a 2-over 40 in the West Shore Conference affair.

Avon Lake 175, St. Joseph Academy 196: Paced by Alison Flint's 42, the Shoremen had four players in the 40s as they improved to 15-2 in an independent match at Sweetbriar.

BOYS GOLF

Berkshire 170, Kirtland 173: Luke Coleman's 4-over 40 earned medalist honors at Pleasant Hill in Claridon Township as the Badgers (9-2, 4-0) held off the Hornets (3-6, 2-3) to remain unbeaten in the Chagrin Valley Conference.

Kirtland's Noah Newsome and Grant Seimon each shot 41.

GIRLS TENNIS

Mayfield 5, Strongsville 0: The host Wildcats got singles' wins from Joy Warner, Mitsuki Fukamachi and Suparna Reddy to sweep the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division match.

Highland 3, Copley 2: Trailing, 2-1, the Hornets won the third singles and second doubles to pull out the Suburban League affair.

Willoughby South 5, Eastlake North 0: Carly Holloway and Khin-Keymon Aung recorded straight set wins as the Rebels swept the Rangers in a Premier Athletic Conference match.

FIELD HOCKEY

Magnificat 4, Cleveland Heights 0: The Blue Streaks got goals from Madeline Hutchinson, Mary Kate Hutchinson, Liz Michael and Tess Kilbane-Myers for the win.
