Playing the Blue Devils on the night of a blue moon was too much blue for Brooklyn. The Hurricanes lost a non-conference contest to Independence last night 42 -13.
The 'Canes played a tough first half and scored on a four yard pass from junior QB Deric Martin to senior Alex Sommers. Junior Dan Czirr added the extra point. The blue and gold went in at half time 21 -7.
Brooklyn seemed flat in the second half and Independence extended their lead with three unanswered touchdowns. Brooklyn put their final tally on the board late in the fourth quarter on a Martin to Sommers pass of three yards.
Defensively, senior Joe Gray led the Hurricanes with fifteen tackles, and junior Jordan McKeever added 10 tackles. Senior Peter Tansi also chipped in with 5 tackles. The big hit of the night was delivered by Nick Hernandez, when he de-cleated an Independence defender after an interception.
Brooklyn looks to re-group and take on another group of Blue Devils from Wickliffe. The next game is this Saturday, August 7th, at 7:00 PM at the Brooklyn Athletic Complex. GO HURRICANES!
