Maria Stein Marion Local had hopes of taking home it's second straight Division IV state volleyball title Saturday at Wright State University's Nutter Center. After four tough fought games the Flyers got their trophy.
"It feels great," said sophomore Alyssa Winner. "I knew I had to have a good game tonight. No regrets...We played well today."
After losing Game 1 23-25, Marion Local (26-3) came back to sweep the Jackson Center Tigers (28-2) 25-18, 25-22, 25-14.
"We were disapointed losing Game 1 so close," Marion Local coach Amy Steininger said. " We knew what we needed to do to beat them. The girls really responded in the second game after the first loss."
Winner led the Flyers with 29 kills, 19 digs, 3 blocks and adding an ace to the score. Seniors Jessica Schwieterman (19 digs) and Tara Hartings (11) and sophomore Alyse Bergman (10) were also impressive on defense for Marion Local.
Senior Allissa Ware (23 kills, 3 assists, 2 aces, 23 digs and 1 block) and junior Casey Gates (22 kills, 2 assists, 26 digs and 1 block) were the top girls for Jackson Center.
