Schlegel lifts Wapakoneta to regional final win

ONTARIO, Ohio (AP) — Heidi Schlegel made a 10-foot turnaround with 3.3 seconds left in overtime to help give Wapakoneta a 50-48 win over Walsh Jesuit in a Division II regional final Friday.

The Warriors inbounded the ball with 1.4 seconds left, but Rachel Theriot's pass was tipped away by Erica Bryan. The Warriors' Cheryl Yu picked it up at halfcourt, but the final buzzer sounded before she was able to take a shot.

Schlegel led the Redskins with 19 points. Devon Golden had 10 points, and Christy Steinke added 14.

Wapakoneta (24-1) advances to the state semifinals to meet the Warsaw River Valley (23-2) next Friday in Columbus.

Walsh Jesuit ends the year 19-7.
