The Laurel Gators advanced to 5-0 in this still young soccer season with a 3-0 victory over the Wellington Dukes at the Laurel Butler Campus. With senior striker and leading scorer Sydney Riddle watching from the sidelines the Gators had more than enough firepower when it counted as they dominated possesion and nearly doubled the shot tally over their determined opponents. Senior co-captain Mia Mastroianni did much of the damage scoring 2 goals and adding an assist on a corner kick that was knocked in by Junior co-captain Nicole Felice who found herself transplanted from her usual back line role into the striker postion to start the game. The Mastroianni goals were both assisted by midfielder Veronica Jones who created numerous shots for herself and her teammates throughout the game. The Gator defense has conceded only 3 goals in five games that include two shutouts. Both Freshman goal keepers Christina Steele and Alex Cade split time today in preserving the shutout while the back line, led by Michelle DeLaney, Sammi Riddle, Kelly Sabransky, Hayley Donohue, and Nicole Felice, limited the Duke's attack at every turn. Laurel's unbeaten record will be put to the test as the Bruins from Padua High School roll into the Butler campus this Saturday at 2:00.
