CLEVELAND - High school football teams in Ohio will continue traditional two-a-day workouts in August. Last week, the National Athletic Trainers Association released a report urging for the elimination of two-a-day practices in early August because of concerns with heat stroke.
There are no plans to modify the traditional start of football training camps in Ohio, the Ohio High School Athletic Association said.
"The health of our student-athletes is something the Ohio High SchoolAthletic Association takes very seriously," OHSAA director of information services Tim Stried said. "We believe that our five-day acclimatization period, along with our coaches education courses and communication with the membership and coaches association, address the need for constant hydration.
"In addition, the weight-in charts sent to every school are crucial in helping make sure football players do not practice until they have recovered from the previous practice."
