Laurel Wins Fourth With 2-1 Victory Over Normandy

Frustration...the Gator's attackers spent much of the game wondering if there was any way to beat the fine Normandy keeper who turned away a variety of shots from long range, close range, and from the corners. The post and cross-bar also did their part a few times as Laurel's barage of shots continued. Finally the ball found the net when Junior Sydney Riddle unleashed a bullet from outside the box that broke the 0-0 deadlock. A short time later some miscommunication in the Normandy defense resulted in an own-goal giving Laurel a 2-0 lead. Normandy talled their goal later in the second half on an excellent individual effort by the right forward that left Laurel goalie Rachel Piccus little chance. Laurel defenders Jessica Wedell, Emma Landskroner, Michelle DeLaney, and Nicole Felice had an excellent game in nearly achieving the shut-out. Freshman Veronica Jones was singled out by the team for her efforts in winning balls and controlling the middle of the field. Laurel now enjoys a week long break from games before taking on Rival Gilmour Academy next Thursday
