The Laurel Gators were prepared for an athletic and physical team from Orange high school and were up to the challenge as they logged a 3-2 win on Tuesday evening. The scoring began after Mia Mastroianni was fouled near the box which resulted in Sydney Riddle finding a hole in the 7-player wall on a direct kick that found the upper corner. Laurel would score again later in the half when Riddle found Freshman Natalie Kosir on a beautifully executed run who blasted the shot between the near post and the goal keeper. The ladies from Orange were not prepared to give up and took control of the game near the end of the first half and into the second scoring two goals; one on a long bomb from well outside the box that just cleared the jump of Laurel keeper Rachel Piccus, and one on a direct kick that rocked the cross-bar and went in. Laurel netted the game-winner late in the second half when Riddle beat a defender in the corner and launched a pin-point cross that Kosir took full in the torso and guided into the net. The game featured a number of exciting counter-attacks and solid play by both goal-keepers. Laurel improves to 3-0 overall for the 2012 season.
