Shaker Heights names Mike Coreno is its new girls basketball coach, pending school board approval

"We had about 20 people apply for the position and we ended up interviewing 10 finalists," said Readance. "Mike Coreno was the best qualified candidate."

Coreno's coaching experience is abundant.

He was an assistant coach at Villa Angela-St. Joseph and St. Peter Chanel before being named head coach at Chanel for the 1999-2000 season and led the Firebirds to a Division IV final four appearance in 2001. Coreno was then head coach at Richmond Heights and Kenston before spending the 2008-09 season as head coach at Cleveland Central Catholic.

Coreno succeeds Readance, who resigned in March to spend more time with his family but will remain as the school's athletic director. Readance guided the Raiders to an 80-35 record, two Lake Erie League Lake Division titles and a Division I regional appearance in five seasons.
