The Gators and the Colts met for the first time in recent memory at the beautiful Butler campus on the near-perfect grass that is the Laurel varsity soccer field. Possession and play was dominated by Laurel as they came away with a 4-0 victory against Cloverleaf who put forth a quality effort for 80 minutes and got a standout performance in goal. The scoring started with the Riddle connection as Freshman Sammi sent a perfect chip shot over the defense to older sister Sydney who launched a shot past the keeper to go up 1-0. The next two goals came from Junior Nicole Felice whose crafty moves around the goal evaded the charging goal keeper and put the Gators up 3-0 to end the half. Assists were from Mia Mastroianni and Sophmore Veronica Jones. The second half saw coach Tibi Regele using the entire varsity and some of the JV roster allowing valuable field time for many younger players who, following a nice J.V. win over H.B. this week, represented well against the determined efforts of the Cloverleaf girls. Mia Mastrioanni converted a penalty kick late in the half whch ended the scoring for the game. Laurel next welcomes Western Reserve Academy to the Butler Campus on Tuesday and will then prepare for their toughest week of the season against Solon and Hawken the week of the 23rd.
