Reif leads the way as Copley girls top Kenmore

Copley Junior guard Taylor Reif tallied 35 points to nearly outscore host Kenmore by herself as the Indians defeated the Cardinals, 48-38, in a nonleague girls basketball game on Monday night.

The Indians (1-0), ranked No. 11 by The Plain Dealer, built a 39-26 lead after three quarters. The Cardinals (0-1) were led by senior guard Shanequa Williams with 17 points and 19 rebounds.

Firestone 79, Buchtel 50: The visiting Falcons (2-0, 1-0) led 24-4 after the first quarter to win the Akron City Series opener.

Sophomore guard Shaia Horton led her club with 22 points, with junior guard Imani Gordon contributing 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.

Senior center Cari Guyton had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Falcons, ranked No. 22 by The Plain Dealer.

Warrensville Hts. 53, Streetsboro 39: The host Tigers outscored the Rockets, 29-17, in the second half to get the nonleague win. Senior guard Daianna Barron paced the winners with 19 points, six assists and six steals. Junior guard Nautica Davis and senior forward Ariel Wright each had 15 points, with Wright hauling down 11 rebounds.
