The tremendous backcourt trio of May, Jackson and Lurns, had their full arsenal on display yet again at Warrensville Heights High. After a slow start to the game, they woke up in time to put on a show of true selfless basketball. Jackson, who could easily score 25 a game got her other teamates involved and still ended with 24 points. She also played incredible passing lane defense making it very difficult to pass the ball anywhere on the floor, and pulling down all kinds of steals. May, emerging as a distinct scoring threat made threes, short jumpers, and nifty drives to the basket. Lurns was on fire tonight, running a potent offense in what had to be close to a 20 assist game, and scoring 31 and joining her other two teamates in a show of theft that would make a pick pocket at a millionaire convention jealous. Coach Toles at the end of the game said if Jizzle(he said that is Janira May's nickname) keeps shooting like she did tonight, we become very hard to beat, I love the fact that at halftime I kinda got on them about their defense and they responded with a 1 point third quarter. Tonight I was told we made a small bit of history as a senate team scoring back to back 100 point games against two different conferences. I called a timeout told them when they got around 85 points to not focus on scoring and to just play basketball and the numbers will come. Im blessed to be able to coach such an incredible group of girls not just now but for the next several years, and being at John Hay makes it even more special(if you only knew the amount of practice time we have to give up to maintain their high rate of academic growth, I have more than one that is academically ready for an Ivy League institution).
