FAIRVIEW PARK-Fairview High School and Rocky River High School, two long-time neighboring rivals, have staged many battles on the gridiron over the years.
But what transpired at Fairview High School's Veterans Field at the Dr. James B. Dailey Stadium Gemini Campus Friday evening, will undoubtedly be one of the more memorable moments pasted inside the Warriors' scrapbook.
With the Pirates playing for a potential playoff berth, and Fairview playing for simple pride, it would be the proud factor prevailing in the end as the Warriors truly brought down the curtain to the regular season in style with a huge win over Rocky River, 22-7.
The loss could keep the Pirates (7-3, 5-2) home for the postseason, while Fairview ends up with a winning season (5-5) and a winning mark (4-3) in the West Shore Conference.
Rocky River got on the board first to begin the second quarter as quarterback Robbie Plagens hit Kyle Dunne on a six-yard TD pass. Fairview later answered as quarterback Don Posladek scored on a one-yard run. The PAT failed giving the Pirates the lead (7-6) at halfitme.
Midway through the third quarter, the Warriors' Canaan Lorek connected on a 36-yard field goal to give the home team the lead (9-7) it would never lose. Subsequent scores by Nick Williams (15-yard TD run) and a one-yard plunge by Jose Sanchez officially put this one into the win column for Fairview.
